5 Great Breakfast Spots in Galveston

The Texas Gulf Coast has a ton of mouthwatering restaurants to choose from. In previous posts, we’ve highlighted our favorite spots to grab a burger and indulge in some local seafood

Now it’s time to focus on one of our favorite meals — breakfast!

One of the perks of renting a BeachBox home is the fully-equipped kitchen that allows you to brew the morning coffee and flip some pancakes in your PJs. But sometimes there’s no substitute for going out for breakfast or brunch. Having someone serve you fluffy waffles, crisp bacon, fresh juice, and delicious hot coffee brewed to perfection is a vacation must-do. Join us as we take you on a tour of some of our favorite spots in Galveston to enjoy the most important meal of the day.

Miller’s Seawall Grill

1824 Seawall Boulevard, Galveston

Stack of pancakes

This place has been around since 1976, so they know a thing or two about how to serve a memorable breakfast. The facade of Miller’s Seawall Grill resembles a classic Victorian home, while inside the dining room is simple, comfy, and friendly. In the warmer months, you can sit outside on the upstairs patio and enjoy the view of the Gulf of Mexico from your table.

Late sleepers will love that Miller’s has an all-day breakfast menu, so you can order steak and eggs whenever you please. You’ll also want to try their southern Biscuits & Sausage Gravy or the Huevos Rancheros with Roasted Jalapenos. You’re close to the ocean— so why not add a bit of seafood to your breakfast with their Lump Crab Benedict? This savory seaside favorite includes two eggs over easy on top of Miller’s special lump crab meat and grilled crab stuffing, then smothered in the creamiest hollandaise and served with a side of hashbrowns. Holy yum! Oh, and the little ones will flip over the waffles, pancakes, and french toast.

The Sunflower Bakery & Cafe

512 14th Street, Galveston

Located in the heart of Galveston’s East End, The Sunflower Bakery & Cafe is “everyone’s favorite neighborhood cafe.” Look for the bright green striped awning, and you’ve found one of the best bakeries in town!

First things first, The Sunflower serves brunch until 3 PM every day. So if you’ve had a late night the night before, no worries! This isn’t your typical brunch either. Serving savory specialties like Fried Quail and Grits, Roasted Lamb Chops, and Crawfish Omelets— there’s something for every adventurous palette at The Sunflower. You’ll also want to try their Bread Pudding French Toast and Belgian Waffles drizzled with fresh fruit.

And don’t forget to order a bakery basket for the table— piled high with fresh croissants, beignets, muffins, danish, and scones.

PattyCakes Bakery

704 14th Street, Galveston

This crowd-pleasing bakery describes itself as “Galveston Island’s Sweet Spot” and it’s easy to see why. From wedding cakes to cupcakes to specialty pies, PattyCakes Bakery is the place to get that special treat for someone’s big day. They even bake made-to-order treats for your pooch!

Sidle up to the counter and take your pick from one of the dozens of types of buttery croissants. They have classic sweet croissants, then a whole array of savory croissants and quiches — like spinach and feta or ham and cheese — that are ideal to take home to your BeachBox rental and heat up later. They also have a full-service coffee bar to wet your whistle.

Croissants

Donut Palace

2117 Broadway Street, Galveston

Yum, donuts… always a crowd-pleaser! At Donut Palace, they pride themselves on serving the freshest donuts in town. This clean and unassuming mom-and-pop bakery often has a line out the door — and for good reason! Their fritters, muffins, and donuts are simply delicious. But don’t worry, the line moves quickly.

Besides their fresh, warm, melt-in-your-mouth donuts, they also serve delicious breakfast burritos and kolaches (AKA pigs in a blanket.) Their coffee is great, too. Stop in at least once to Donut Palace during your trip and bring a box of fresh donuts back to your BeachBox rental for your crew.

Shykatz Deli & Bakery

1528 Avenue L, Galveston

Located in a square brick building on a sunny street corner, Shykatz Deli & Bakery is a local hidden gem. Huge portions, an extensive menu, and an uber-friendly staff make for a delightful and delicious breakfast experience. If you don’t believe us, then take a peek at the absolute avalanche of online five-star reviews for this place.

Try The Smuggler, a huge breakfast burrito filled with eggs, bacon, sausage, cheese, home fries, and jalapeños, then deep-fried and topped with red chili sauce or house gravy. The Katastophic is another favorite. It’s a fluffy buttermilk biscuit topped with country ham, shredded cheddar, home fries, and two eggs sprinkled with bacon. If you have a sweet tooth, their Berries and Cream Cinnamon French Toast will hit the spot. Keep in mind that the portions at Shykatz are enormous!
