Best Burgers on the Texas Gulf Coast

It’s January — the start of a brand new year. And brand new resolutions. Eating healthier, working out more… it’s on all of our minds at this time of year.

But you know what else has been on the minds of BeachBox staff lately? A big juicy burger. We know, we know — burgers hardly have the healthiest reputations. But hear us out.

It’s no secret that 2020 was tough on everyone. After a year like that, we at BeachBox think it’s a good idea to take a guilt-free break from the traditional, restrictive resolutions of years’ past. What better way to treat yourself than to tuck into a giant, flame-broiled patty piled high with some creative (or classic, if you prefer) toppings?

January is, after all, World Carnivore Month. It’s only right to join the cause and indulge in your favorite burger this month, or whenever your next visit to the Texas Gulf Coast may be.

So, without further ado, we continue our ongoing series of the best restaurants in Galveston with our favorite spots to grab a juicy burger. Order up!

The Spot

We’ll start our burger tour in Galveston proper at The Spot — the place that every burger lover must try. With over 9,000 five-star reviews, it’s clear that The Spot knows a thing or two about burgers. The casual and vibrant beachfront dining room doesn’t hurt, either.

We’re partial to the King Burger, with gooey Swiss cheese and sautéed mushrooms. There’s also the crowd-pleasing Ralph Burger, piled high with cheddar cheese, bacon, and barbecue sauce. Their Sweet and Spicy Burger was featured on the Travel Channel and has melty chipotle cheddar cheese, fried jalapeño strips, and homemade bacon jam. Oh, and leave a little room for one of their handspun milkshakes and malts, like chocolate peanut butter. Yes, please!

On the side: Sea La Vie (pictured above) has views of the Galveston skyline and the Gulf of Mexico. There’s room for 22 people at this luxurious getaway, located inside The Preserve at Grand Beach. You’ll have easy access to all the dining and shopping you can handle, plus a quiet and serene spot to relax at the end of the day.

The West End Marina & Restaurants

In beautiful Sea Isle Beach lies the tranquil West End Marina & Restaurants. Featuring two restaurants, a convenience store, a friendly staff, and a full-service marina, this place is your one-stop shop in Sea Isle.

Try their scrumptious Avocado Bacon Burger, served on a sourdough bun and topped with fresh remoulade and pepperjack cheese. Vegetarians will love their Impossible Burger, grilled with Impossible Beef and topped with black beans and chipotle mayo. They also have a huge selection of po’boys — from cheesesteak, to oysters, to chicken, oh my! Their craft cocktails and breakfast menu are pretty tasty, too.

On the side: Wanna bring the whole crew to the coast? There’s enough room for everyone at Gone Coastal (pictured above). Located on a canal and right around the corner from the West End Marina, you’ll have everything you need for a perfect Texas Gulf Coast vacay, right outside your door.

Jetty Shack

We’ll head down south to Surfside Beach for the Jetty Shack. From the online reviews of this popular local hang out, the atmosphere is not to everyone’s taste. It’s a small and simple shack — with a pool table, dartboard, ice-cold beer, and the game on TV. But the burgers are all a ½ pound of to-die-for deliciousness.

Our favorite is the Steakhouse Burger, piled high with cheddar cheese, onion rings, and barbecue sauce. The Southwest Burger has jalapeños, pepperjack cheese, chipotle sauce, and cayenne. Veggie lovers fear not — you can order a black bean burger. Some non-burger items that have us coming back to Jetty Burger are the Cream Cheese Stuffed Jalapeños and their out-of-this-world BLT sandwich.

On the side: For a fun-in-the-sun stay in Surfside Beach that just happens to be located right around the corner from the Jetty Shack— check out Beachfront A-Frame (pictured above). This stylish and bright home has retro flair to spare, plus a picture-perfect location that’s close to the beach— and those yummy burgers!

Beach Front Deck Bar & Grill

If it’s a casual, beachy atmosphere you’re looking for, Beach Front Deck Bar & Grill may quickly become your go-to spot in Surfside Beach. Located a little further north than the Jetty Shack, this absolutely gorgeous waterfront oasis serves up some insanely good burgers.

Take a seat on the huge outdoor deck, order a frosty margarita, and relax to the sounds of the waves and the feel of the ocean breeze. This place is the definition of Texas Gulf Coast relaxation. To satisfy your burger fix, try their Beachfront Burger — a juicy patty grilled to perfection on a toasted bun with the tried-and-true lettuce, tomato, and mayo. They also serve up a five-alarm Spicy Burger, complete with grilled onions, jalapeños, pepperjack cheese, avocado, chipotle cream, and their special house-made spicy sauce. The little ones will love the mac and cheese, and your whole group will flip out over their famous Sunday Brunch.

On the side: Take a peek around the corner at Wait n’ Sea (pictured above) — a classic two-bedroom bungalow right on the shores of Surfside Beach. You’ll be able to walk to the beach and to dinner or brunch from here.
