Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth on the Texas Gulf Coast

For the past few months, we’ve been sharing all of our favorite foodie spots on the Texas Gulf Coast. First, we took you to some select seafood spots and the best places for a juicy cheeseburger. Then, we toured our favorite breakfast bistros and casual coffee cafes. Next, we went out on the town with our happiest happy hour saloons. We even took you around to our preferred places to stock up on groceries for those nights when you want to stay in your BeachBox vacation rental home. It’s been a whirlwind tour of the greatest places in Galveston to nosh on some local goodies. But like any mouthwatering meal, it must come to an end.

So how do you end a great meal? With a delicious, delectable dessert, of course! For our final post on the best places to eat and drink in Galveston and along the Texas Gulf Coast, we thought it was only fitting to share with you our favorite spots to satisfy your sweet tooth.

So grab a spoon and dig in— these are some of our fave places for dessert on the Texas Gulf Coast.

Patty Cakes Bakery

704 14th Street, Galveston

We simply must start here, at Patty Cakes Bakery. The bakery that has dubbed itself “Galveston’s Sweet Spot.” There’s an avalanche of online reviews that sing the praises of their fresh, handmade baked goods. And they’ve got an enormous selection to choose from— including cupcakes, cookies, cake balls, tarts, pies, bread, and even baked treats for your pup! They serve fresh-brewed coffee drinks, too.

If you’re in town for a special occasion and need a cake— look no further than Patty Cakes. They make some of the most eye-catching, crowd-pleasing cakes you’ve ever seen. From classic wedding cakes to tiered cupcake “cakes” to fun birthday cakes to holiday-themed cakes, they do it all and then some. Patty Cakes can also cater for parties, too.

Bahama Bucks

500 Seawall Blvd, Galveston

For something a little lighter— but still sweet— try the shaved ice at Bahama Bucks. A national franchise with shops in Arizona, Florida, and all over Texas, their claim to fame is their “light and airy” ice that’s covered in your choice of dozens of syrup flavors.

Try flavorful combinations like Peach Cobbler (peach, vanilla, and cinnamon), Unicorn (rainbow “sno” with whipped cream, and sprinkles), or a Mangonada (mango, chamoy, and chili salt). They also serve island smoothies, frosty lattes, and lemonades. For a cool, sweet treat after a hot day on the beach, Bahama Bucks is a family-friendly spot that the kids will love.

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory

2225 Strand, Galveston

If you’re a chocoholic and you’re in the mood for something sweet, you simply have to pay a visit to this chocolatier franchise. Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is a master candy maker that churns out some of the most delicious chocolate treats in the world. Based out of Colorado— hence the name— you’ll want to take a peek inside this store if only for the delicious aroma alone.

They also serve classic sweet treats like caramel-covered apples in several flavor varieties, and they make their fudge fresh every day. Chocolate pieces include buttercreams, toffee-filled, peanut butter cups, nut clusters, fancy truffles, and their signature candy known as The Bear— a paw-shaped chocolate piece with roasted nuts and caramel.

La King’s Confectionary

2323 Strand, Galveston

We mentioned La King’s briefly in a previous post about the best free stuff to do in Galveston this summer. Just touring this amazing shop and watching the mesmerizing taffy pull is a treat in itself— like traveling back in time. But you’ll definitely want to sample some of their delicious sweet stuff, too.

They have a selection of over fifty “old-time” sweet treats to choose from like peanut brittle, pecan pralines, dipped pretzels, and fudge. All are handmade in-house from the freshest ingredients. You’ll also want to save some room for the ice cream and soda fountain. Pull up a stool and indulge in their Texas-made Purity ice cream flavors like Rocky Road, Mint Chocolate Chip, or Fudge Ripple.

Rudy & Paco’s Restaurant & Bar

2028 Postoffice Street, Galveston

For a romantic date night that’s capped off with a delicious dessert— take your sweetheart to Rudy & Paco’s Restaurant & Bar. Voted as one of the “100 Most Romantic Restaurants in America” by Open Table, this is the perfect place to bring that special someone for a memorable evening out on the town.

Their Latin-American seafood menu includes grilled gulf shrimp and savory red snapper. But be sure to save some room for the revolving dessert menu that includes a chocolate molten lava cake served with gelato and fresh berries, a decadent mocha mousse cake served with strawberries, or the melt-in-your-mouth bread pudding. Make sure to tell them if you’re there for a special occasion, and they’ll write a custom message on the dessert plate. Reservations are encouraged.
