Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions about packing for your Galveston trip? Here’s what our guests ask us most.

Daytime highs run 89 to 94 degrees with heat index values often above 100 because of the humidity. Overnight lows stay in the upper 70s to low 80s. Plan beach time before 11 AM and after 4 PM, with shaded breaks in between.

Sargassum (the brown seaweed) varies year to year and beach to beach. Some weeks the beaches are nearly clear. Other weeks there are thick mats at the high-tide line. A small rake, water shoes, and a willingness to walk a hundred yards down the beach to find a clear patch will solve most of it. East Beach and Stewart Beach are groomed regularly during peak season.

Plan on two 8-ounce bottles of SPF 30 to 50 spray plus two sticks for faces. That is roughly the amount a family of four uses across a five- to seven-day trip with two reapplications a day.

Stings are uncommon but not impossible, especially in late summer. The most common Gulf species respond to white vinegar applied to the sting site. A small spray bottle of vinegar in your beach bag is helpful. If you see purple flags at lifeguard stations, that signals marine pests like jellyfish or stingrays are present.

Yes, most Galveston beaches allow leashed dogs, though a few, like Stewart Beach, are pet-free. East Beach and most of the West End welcome dogs on a leash. Pet policies at BeachBox properties vary by home, so filter by pet-friendly when browsing to find the right fit for your group. If you’re bringing a dog, pack a leash, a travel water bowl, waste bags, and a towel for sandy paws before heading back to the rental.
