How BeachBox Prepares for and Responds to Storms

Hurricane Policies & Resources

At BeachBox, the safety of our homeowners, guests, and team members comes first. In the event of a tropical storm or hurricane, we take proactive steps to protect homes whenever possible. However, we want to be transparent about what you can expect during these events.

⚠️ Important: We cannot guarantee availability of our teams during a natural disaster. Severe weather may impact our staff directly, and their safety will always remain our top priority. While we will make every effort to reach as many homes as possible, limited time and storm conditions may prevent us from servicing every property. Please have a backup plan in place (neighbor, friend, or family member) in case we cannot access your home.

What We Do Before and During a Storm

The scope of our storm preparation depends on the hurricane category, available time, and access conditions. Services may include:

Tropical Storm / Category 1–2 Hurricanes:

  • Securing outdoor furniture and décor

  • Storing grills, umbrellas, and small equipment

  • Relocating first-floor furniture and electronics (as time allows)

Category 3–5 Hurricanes:

  • All services listed above

  • Boarding windows and doors (as supplies and access allow)

  • Additional protective measures at owner’s request, if feasible

📌 Note: Time spent at your property and any materials (plywood, hardware, etc.) will be billed back to you.

During the storm, our teams will be offline to focus on fieldwork. Updates will come from our off-island support staff when communication lines allow. We kindly ask that you avoid calling during the storm so we can prioritize home protection.

Special Considerations for Guests & Reservations

Hurricanes affect more than just property safety. They also impact reservations and guest experience. Please keep in mind:

  • Reservation Cancellations: Canceling too early can lead to lost revenue if the storm shifts course. We follow official guidance from local authorities before making cancellation decisions.

  • Guest Safety & Evacuations: If mandatory evacuation orders are issued, we immediately communicate with guests and coordinate departures.

  • Guest Experience Post-Storm: Even if your property is secure, island-wide debris, beach conditions, or partial utility outages may affect the experience and reviews.

  • Power & Utilities: Extended outages of electricity, water, or internet are common after hurricanes and may force cancellations or refunds.

  • Island Access: Road closures, ferry suspensions, and bridge restrictions can delay guest arrivals or prevent access, regardless of your home’s condition.

  • Insurance & Refund Policies: Guests may request refunds or credits; we balance these decisions carefully between guest satisfaction and protecting your revenue.

Our team works with you to make the best decisions possible while keeping safety and guest satisfaction top of mind.

Insurance & Coverage Reminders

  • Review Your TWIA Coverage: Ensure your Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) policy is up to date. Coverage changes cannot be made once a storm is named.

  • Blackout Policies: Double-check your blackout restrictions to understand coverage limitations.

  • Vendor Referrals: If you need help lining up contractors or service providers for additional preparation or repairs, our team can connect you with trusted local partners.
