Hurricane Season Support & Property Protection with BeachBox
Hurricane season in Galveston runs from June through November, with peak activity usually between August and October. At BeachBox, the safety of our homeowners, guests, and team members is always our top priority. While tropical storms and hurricanes are unpredictable, we take proactive steps to help protect your vacation rental property when conditions allow.
How BeachBox Helps Homeowners Prepare for Storm Season
⚠️ Important: We cannot guarantee availability of our teams during a natural disaster. Severe weather may directly impact our staff, and their safety will always come first. While we make every effort to assist, we recommend having a backup plan in place (neighbor, friend, or family member) in case we cannot access your home.
For accurate, real-time updates, we recommend the following official sources:
What We Do Before and During a Storm
Before a storm arrives, our team can assist with essential property preparation. Depending on the severity of the storm, available time, and access conditions, services may include:
Tying down or laying down outdoor furniture
Bringing small furniture, décor, and equipment indoors
Securing grills, umbrellas, and trash bins
Closing hurricane shutters (if installed)
Turning off utilities or power upon request
These services are provided as a courtesy to our homeowners. Many property managers in Galveston do not offer storm preparation assistance, but at BeachBox, we go the extra mile whenever possible to help protect your investment.
What We Do Before and During a Storm
For Category 3–5 hurricanes, severe property damage is often unavoidable due to storm surge, flooding, and extreme winds. While we take every precaution possible, homeowners should understand that no preparation can fully prevent damage during storms of this magnitude.
During active storms, our on-island teams focus on fieldwork and safety. Communication will come from our off-island support staff as conditions allow. We ask homeowners to avoid calling during a storm so our crews can prioritize home protection.
Special Considerations for Guests & Reservations
Hurricanes and tropical storms don’t just affect homes—they also impact reservations, guest safety, and the overall vacation experience. Here’s what you can expect:
Reservation Cancellations: We follow official guidance from local authorities before canceling bookings to avoid unnecessary lost revenue.
Guest Safety & Evacuations: If a mandatory evacuation is issued, we immediately notify guests and assist with safe departures.
Post-Storm Guest Experience: Even if your home is secured, island-wide debris, beach closures, or power outages may affect guest satisfaction.
Utilities & Power: Extended outages of water, electricity, or internet are common after hurricanes and may require refunds or cancellations.
Island Access: Road closures, ferry delays, and bridge restrictions may limit or prevent guest arrivals.
Insurance & Refunds: Our team balances refund and credit requests to protect guest relationships while safeguarding your rental revenue.
Review Your TWIA Coverage: Ensure your Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) policy is up to date. Coverage changes cannot be made once a storm is named.
Blackout Policies: Double-check your blackout restrictions to understand coverage limitations.
Vendor Referrals: If you need help lining up contractors or service providers for additional preparation or repairs, our team can connect you with trusted local partners.
