Galveston Vacation Rentals for Thanksgiving 2026

BeachBox hands over keys up and down the Galveston coast, and Thanksgiving is the week that rewards the house you choose more than any other week of the year.

It is the week the island has its lights on. The Moody Gardens Festival of Lights is already running (it opens November 21 for the 2026 season), the Strand dresses its storefronts, the Gulf settles to around 69 degrees, and the afternoons hold in the low 70s while the nights drop far enough to want a sweater on the deck. It is also the week your family stops being guests in a hotel and becomes a household again, with one kitchen, one long table, and the beach a short walk or drive away.

Where to stay in Galveston for Thanksgiving is a question of your group before it is a question of your neighborhood, so what follows is not the whole portfolio. It is five well-reviewed homes that were still open for Thanksgiving week when we checked, one for each shape a Thanksgiving crew takes, from the pool house that sleeps sixteen to the downtown loft a short walk from the Strand. The rest are in our full collection.

The West End Decides the Week

Everything about a Galveston Thanksgiving follows from which side of the island you wake up on. Downtown gives you the Strand within walking distance and a loft that suits a small group. The West End gives you the house, and the house is the holiday: a full oven you can actually roast in, a table nobody has to eat standing up beside, a deck for the first coffee, and sand close enough that the walk after pie is a short one.

Much of our collection sits out here, in beach communities like Bay Harbor and Jamaica Beach, with more downtown, in Surfside, and on the bay side near Kemah, which means the real choice is not the neighborhood. It is how many of you there are, whether you are cooking, and how far you want to be from the car. Compare the areas on our Locations page if you want the map first, then come back to these.

Availability note: we checked each home’s booking calendar on October 23, 2026, and all five below were open for Wednesday, November 25 to Sunday, November 29, 2026 (and for Thursday to Sunday). Holiday dates move fast and availability can change at any time, so confirm your dates on each home’s page.

Bay Harbor Gives the Crowd Room to Spread

Bay Harbor is the pocket for a guest list that kept growing after the invitations went out: a quiet West End beach community with room around the houses and the beach a couple of minutes away by car. For more West End beach houses, browse our Galveston vacation rentals.

Anchors Away

Four bedrooms and room for sixteen is the whole argument. Two bedrooms each have a king bed, and the other two each pair a queen with a full-over-full bunk, so the cousins sleep together and the grandparents get a door that closes. Upstairs, the open living room and kitchen hold everyone at once, with a breakfast bar and stainless steel appliances for the cook who takes Thursday seriously.

The space under the house is where the long afternoon goes: picnic tables, porch swings, and a charcoal grill, with an outdoor shower for the sand that comes back with everyone. After dark, the fire pit takes over. The above-ground pool and its large deck are there too; the listing does not describe the pool as heated, so treat a late-November swim as a sunny-afternoon bonus rather than the plan.

  • Sleeps: 16 (4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms)
  • Guest rating: 4.4 out of 5 from 130 reviews
  • Beach: about a 2-minute drive to Terramar Beach, 5 minutes to Sea Isle
  • Outdoors: fire pit, picnic tables and porch swings under the house, charcoal grill, outdoor shower, above-ground pool (4 ft deep) with a large deck
  • Pets: up to 3 pets, $25 per pet
  • Parking: room for 4 cars

Jamaica Beach Is the Easiest Week

Jamaica Beach is the steady choice: close to the beach access point, with a city park nearby, and built for families who want the day to have shape without anyone having to plan it. See all of our Jamaica Beach vacation rentals.

No Agenda Hacienda

The two levels are the point. Upstairs, the main living area and kitchen island are where Thanksgiving actually happens, with two bedrooms (one queen, one queen plus a twin bunk) for the parents. Downstairs, a second living area takes the overflow, with a full-size sleeper sofa, a full-size bunk bed, a classic arcade game, and a foosball table, so the kids and the teenagers have a room of their own between meals.

Outside, a large front porch has both a shaded side and a sunny one, and the big backyard has a fire pit and a BBQ grill for the evening after the meal. Twelve guests fit, the beach access point is about two minutes away by car, and there is no particular reason to leave between Wednesday and Sunday.

  • Sleeps: 12 (3 bedrooms, 1 full bathroom plus a half bath with laundry)
  • Guest rating: 4.5 out of 5 from 47 reviews
  • Beach: about a 2-minute drive to the Jamaica Beach access point
  • Indoors: two living areas, kitchen island, arcade game and foosball downstairs
  • Outdoors: large backyard fire pit, BBQ grill, front porch with shade and sun
  • Pets: up to 2 pets, $25 per pet
  • Good to know: the Jamaica Beach community pool is open Memorial Day to Labor Day only

Downtown Puts the Strand Outside the Door

Not every Thanksgiving needs a beach house. For a couple, a small family, or friends who want to walk to dinner and the shops on the Strand, downtown is the better base. Browse more downtown Galveston rentals.

Market Street Loft C

This is the highest-rated home in this post, and the reasons are on the listing: a vintage loft with lofted ceilings, abundant natural light, and a renovated kitchen that opens onto the dining table and living room. The bedroom has a king bed and a twin-over-twin bunk, and a second twin bunk sits off the main living space, which is how a one-bedroom loft sleeps six.

The large balcony overlooks downtown, a good spot for a slow breakfast on Friday, and the Strand is a short walk away. The building is historic, with early 20th century materials and single-pane windows, so expect some city noise.

  • Sleeps: 6 (1 bedroom, 1 bathroom)
  • Guest rating: 4.9 out of 5 from 200 reviews
  • Location: historic downtown Galveston, a short walk to the Strand
  • Beach: less than a 5-minute drive to the Seawall beaches
  • Pets: 1 pet, $25
  • Parking: free and paid street parking around the building

When the Holiday Starts Off the Island

Some Thanksgivings start on the Houston side of the causeway or down the coast. Two of ours pick up where the island stops, both well reviewed and both open for the holiday week when we checked. For more options, see our Surfside vacation rentals and Kemah vacation rentals.

The Surf Shack

A three-bedroom bungalow in Surfside Beach, with the beach access point about 100 yards away. The open living and dining space keeps the cook in the conversation, the wraparound deck takes the morning coffee and the sunset, and the BBQ grill takes the leftovers on Friday. The two bunk rooms (one queen bunk with a twin above, one queen-over-queen) are made for kids and cousins.

  • Sleeps: 9 (3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom)
  • Guest rating: 4.8 out of 5 from 74 reviews
  • Location: Surfside Beach, Freeport, Texas
  • Beach: less than a minute’s drive or about a 5-minute walk
  • Outdoors: private pool (not described as heated), wraparound deck, BBQ grill
  • Pets: up to 2 pets, $25 per pet

Clear Lake Getaway

A lakefront condo in Clear Lake Shores, minutes from the Kemah waterfront, and the one to book if half the family is flying into Houston. The living room has large windows with lake views and flows into the dining space and the kitchen, where bar seating keeps everyone close while the meal comes together. Upstairs, the primary bedroom has its own en suite bathroom, and two more bedrooms share a full bath.

  • Sleeps: 11 (3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms)
  • Guest rating: 4.9 out of 5 from 17 reviews
  • Location: Clear Lake Shores, near Kemah
  • Shared amenities: community pool
  • Pets: up to 2 pets, $25 per pet
  • Parking: 2 labeled spots

Frequently Asked Questions

Which BeachBox home should I book for Thanksgiving? Match the home to the count. For up to sixteen, take Anchors Away in Bay Harbor for the four bedrooms and the space under the house. For up to twelve with kids in tow, take No Agenda Hacienda in Jamaica Beach for the downstairs game room and the backyard fire pit. For a small group that wants to walk to the Strand, take Market Street Loft C downtown. Off the island, The Surf Shack in Surfside sleeps nine and Clear Lake Getaway near Kemah sleeps eleven.

Can I cook Thanksgiving dinner at the rental? Yes, and it is the main reason families choose a house over a hotel. Anchors Away has a breakfast bar and stainless steel appliances, No Agenda Hacienda has a kitchen island, Market Street Loft C has a renovated kitchen, and Clear Lake Getaway has bar seating at the kitchen. Ask us for a cookware inventory before you arrive if you want to travel light on roasting pans.

How far in advance should I book a Galveston rental for Thanksgiving? As early as you can. When we checked on October 23, 2026, several of our largest homes were already booked for Thanksgiving week, and the homes in this post were open but can book at any time.

What is the weather like in Galveston at Thanksgiving? Highs in the low 70s through the week, nights in the upper 50s, the Gulf around 69 degrees, and roughly three to three and a half inches of rain across the whole month. Locals pack for anywhere between 50 and 80 degrees because a front can pass through. Shorts by day, a sweater after dark, and one light jacket for the Seawall.

Which BeachBox homes in this post have pools? Anchors Away has a private above-ground pool (4 ft deep) with a large deck, The Surf Shack has a private pool, and Clear Lake Getaway has a community pool. None of these listings describe the pools as heated, so late-November swimming depends on the weather. The Jamaica Beach community pool near No Agenda Hacienda is open Memorial Day to Labor Day only.

Are the homes pet-friendly for the holiday? All five are. Anchors Away welcomes up to three pets, No Agenda Hacienda, The Surf Shack, and Clear Lake Getaway up to two, and Market Street Loft C one, each at $25 per pet. Confirm size limits with us when you book so nobody is surprised at check-in.

What is the largest group you can take? In this post, Anchors Away is the largest at sixteen guests. We have larger homes, but several were already booked for Thanksgiving week when we checked, so tell us your headcount and we will tell you what is still open.
