Coconut Cottage

“We had a great experience. Very close to the beach. Loved that they provided plenty of towels. Very spacious with outdoor seating areas too. Host was very nice, communicative and responsive. Would def recommend.”

Broadway Lodge

“Had a great stay here with my family before we went on our cruise out of Galveston. The house is cute and accurate to the photos. The home itself is positioned on the Main Street so it is not safe for children to be outside in the front part of the home. However, it more than makes up for it at the back of the home because it has an enclosed parking area and a pool which of course is fun for the kids. We would definitely stay here again.”

Bermuda Rose

“Big house, open spaces and plenty of rooms for a big group of people who’ve been wanting to spend some time together or celebrate an event. It was a great experience and worth every penny!”

Broadway Lodge II

“Great place to accommodate multiple people! Comfortable and clean.”

Big Kahuna

“Our stay was amazing.”

Galveston does Christmas its own way: Victorian carolers on The Strand, millions of lights at Moody Gardens and mild December days that still make room for a long walk on the beach. The 2026 season runs from mid November into the new year, so you can plan a long weekend around Dickens on The Strand or settle in for the whole holiday stretch. Heading beyond the island? Our guide to the holidays on the Texas Gulf Coast covers Kemah, the Clear Lake boat parade and what the beaches are like in December.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is there to do in Galveston at Christmas time?
Galveston’s holiday season runs from mid November into the new year. The highlights are Dickens on The Strand (December 4–6, 2026), Holiday in the Gardens at Moody Gardens (November 21, 2026 to January 2, 2027), with ICE LAND, more than two million lights and outdoor ice skating, and The Polar Express train ride at the Galveston Railroad Museum (November 13 to December 23).
Yes, especially if you like a quieter island. December brings mild weather, fewer crowds than summer and some of Galveston’s biggest events, from Dickens on The Strand to the Moody Gardens holiday lights. It is too cool for most people to swim, but beach walks, biking the Seawall and evenings out are at their best.
According to National Weather Service normals, Galveston averages a high of about 66°F and a low of about 52°F in December. Early December still reaches the high 60s, while the days around Christmas sit closer to 64°F during the day and 50°F at night. Pack layers and a light jacket for evenings outdoors.
No, Dickens on The Strand is a ticketed festival, though children 6 and under have traditionally gotten in free and guests in Victorian costume get half off at the gate. The 2026 festival runs December 4–6 in the Strand Historic District, and the Galveston Historical Foundation posts current ticket prices on its website before the event.
Yes. The Galveston Railroad Museum hosts The Polar Express train ride from November 13 to December 23, 2026, with hot chocolate, a visit from Santa and plenty of kids in pajamas. It sells out every year, so book tickets through the museum as soon as your travel dates are set.
If you want a holiday trip with a beach, Galveston is one of the easiest choices in Texas, about an hour from Houston, with mild weather and a full calendar of Christmas events. Staying in one of our Galveston vacation rentals gives the whole family a kitchen for the holiday meal and room to spread out.
