Holiday in the Gardens at Moody Gardens (November 21, 2026 to January 2, 2027)
Moody Gardens in Galveston turns into one of the biggest light shows on the coast, with its Festival of Lights trail and holiday attractions running from the weekend before Thanksgiving into the new year. Tickets and nightly hours are posted on moodygardens.com.
The Polar Express in Galveston (November 13 to December 23, 2026)
The Galveston Railroad Museum brings the classic story to life with a short train ride, hot cocoa, cookies and a visit from Santa. Come in pajamas, because most of the kids do. Rides sell out, especially the weekends closest to Christmas, so book early through the Galveston Railroad Museum.
Dickens on The Strand (December 4 to 6, 2026)
For one weekend, the Strand Historic District becomes Victorian London, with costumed characters, parades, street performers, holiday shopping and plenty of food. The 2026 festival runs December 4 to 6, with Friday evening kicking things off and the main festival on Saturday and Sunday. Christmas on the Kemah Boardwalk
About 25 miles north of Galveston, the Kemah Boardwalk dresses up in lights for the season, with rides, waterfront restaurants and holiday weekend activities with Santa. The Christmas Boat Parade on Clear Lake
Few things say Christmas on the Texas coast like a parade of lighted boats. The Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce’s Christmas Boat Parade, one of the largest in Texas, usually runs on the second Saturday of December, with fireworks and the parade starting around 6 PM. In 2025 it was held on December 13, so expect Saturday, December 12, 2026, and confirm on clearlakearea.com. The Kemah Boardwalk is one of the best places to watch.
Festival of Lights in Lake Jackson, near Surfside
If you are staying on the southern end of the coast, Lake Jackson’s Festival of Lights is a short drive from Surfside Beach. It usually happens the week before Thanksgiving, with a carnival, a giant snowman and a Parade of Lights with more than 60 entries, and the city keeps the decorations going through New Year’s.
