How to Stay Cool on the Gulf Coast This Summer

Summer is heating up fast, and nowhere is that more apparent than on the Texas Gulf Coast. Our seawall, beaches, and swimming pools are already filling up with fun-loving guests looking to beat the heat while enjoying the excitement of the coast.

All along the Texas Gulf Coast, there are hundreds of ways to beat the heat and stay cool. Here are a few of our favorite ways to find some refreshment this summer.

Stewart Beach

Named one of the “10 Best Beaches for Families” Stewart Beach is conveniently located where Broadway Avenue meets the Seawall. If you like your beach with tons of amenities, then you’ll love Stewart Beach. Here you’ll have your pick of clean restrooms, crystal clear freshwater showers, comfy chairs, and umbrella rentals. There are also well-manicured beach volleyball courts and a super-fun children’s playground, too. When you get hungry, there are yummy concessions and a pavilion for snacking in the shade.

When you want to cool off in the water, you can rest easy knowing there is regular supervision from highly trained lifeguards. Stewart Beach quite simply has it all!

Lasker Community Pool

This gorgeous $4.1 million community project is now open just in time to cool off this summer. The pool includes a recreational area with a body slide and kid-friendly play structures. There’s also a lap pool and a space for swimming classes and water fitness classes.

Prices are only $4-$6 per day for residents and non-residents. Children under 2 and active military are free. The pool is located at 2016 43rd Street in Galveston. For more information, visit the pool’s website.

Primetime Movie Theater

Sometimes on a hot day, one of the best things to do is go sit in a dark, air-conditioned theater with a huge tub of warm, buttery popcorn and catch the latest movie. Galveston Primetime is the perfect place to escape the heat for a few hours. They have ice-cold AC, super-comfortable, reclining seats— that go all the way back— and little tables with cup holders for your lap.

They show matinees and late-night movies, so there’s something for everyone. And with hundreds of five-star reviews online touting everything from the food quality to the cleanliness, a trip to the theater to beat the heat will be sure to please everyone in your group. Now you just need to decide on which movie you’re going to see…

Galveston Water Adventures

Getting out on the water is always a good idea on a hot day. Galveston Water Adventures is located at historic Pier 21 and offers all sorts of nautical options. Choose from a relaxing dolphin tour in the twin-engine open-air tour boat, or sip some champagne and enjoy a romantic sunset cruise. For adrenaline seekers, you’ll want to book a trip on the jet boat thrill ride— a fast-paced ride complete with right-angle turns, accelerated speeds, and the exciting “Hamilton Spin” maneuver.

Make your reservations ahead of time by visiting their website.

Third Coast Parasail

For a peaceful, relaxing, yet completely exciting activity— try parasailing. Third Coast Parasail will safely lift you up into the air for an unforgettable soar behind their boat. You’ll love the birds-eye scenery and the peace and quiet, while also enjoying some refreshing ocean air. Parasailers have been known to spot dolphins while airborne— so keep your eyes peeled!

Prices are $90 to fly and $35 to ride along in the boat. They will also be offering banana boat rides this summer, so continue checking their website for pricing.

Rent a House With a Pool— Or On The Water

When you rent a BeachBox home with a private pool, you have your own way to beat the Texas heat right in your backyard. Homes like Las Palomas (pictured above) have plenty of room— 7 bedrooms in all— plus a gorgeous private pool. Your crew will love having all the space and seclusion, while still being close to local attractions.

Another option is to book a home that sits right on the coastal edge— like Edgewater Bungalow. This three-bedroom home sits snug on the edge of the Gulf of Mexico, so you’ll enjoy all of the cool, offshore sea breezes in the heat of the summer.

Brew The Perfect Lemonade

When you rent a BeachBox home, you’ll have access to your very own fully equipped kitchen. Take full advantage of this by blending the perfect summer lemonade for your crew.

In a small saucepan, combine 1 ¾ cups white sugar and 1 cup water and bring to a boil to dissolve the sugar. Allow the sugar water to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate it until chilled. Once chilled, stir the sugar water, 1 ½ cups lemon juice, and 7 more cups of water together in a pitcher. Pour over ice with a lemon slice. Sip slowly on your BeachBox patio. Ahhh…
