Babe’s Beach

Wide Sand, Simple Access, Classic Galveston Vibes

Babe’s Beach is one of Galveston’s easiest, most family-friendly stretches of sand. It runs west of 61st Street along Seawall Boulevard and is known for its wide shoreline and simple access. It is a great pick when you want a classic Seawall beach day with space to spread out, easy logistics, and nearby restrooms for families.

Visitor Guide

Plan Your Perfect Day At Babe's Beach

📍 Location

Babe’s Beach sits along Seawall Boulevard starting around 61st Street and continuing west for several blocks. It is a convenient Seawall location with multiple access points, so you can choose the cross street that fits your plans.

The beach is open to the public. Parking along Seawall Boulevard is typically paid in most zones during posted enforcement hours. There are also free parking areas on the north side of Seawall in select stretches, including areas near 53rd to 61st Street, which can work well if you do not mind a short walk.

  • Umbrella and chair rentals: Babe’s Beach is more of a bring your own and settle in beach, but seasonal vendors and concessionaires may offer umbrella and chair rentals along the Seawall, especially in busier months.
  • Restrooms and rinse showers are nearby: One of the biggest family advantages is the availability of public restrooms and rinse showers at several Seawall cross streets, including around 61st Street. Hours can vary seasonally.
  • Snacks and treats nearby: Seasonal vendors and nearby Seawall options make it easy to grab simple snacks and cold treats, especially on peak weekends.
  • Space to spread out: This stretch often feels wider than some of the more central Seawall areas, which is helpful for families who want room for sand games, extra towels, and a comfortable shade zone.

Keep your setup respectful and easy for everyone. Avoid glass, clean up all trash, keep music at a reasonable volume, and keep pets leashed. Follow posted signs, stay off dunes and protected areas, and do not leave chairs or tents unattended for long periods. Alcohol is not allowed on Galveston public beaches along the Seawall.

Check beach flags and conditions before getting in the water. Gulf conditions can change quickly, and rough surf days are common. For family days, treat choppy water as a cue to stay close to shore and focus on sand play, shade breaks, and quick dips near the edge.

Babe’s Beach is busiest from late spring through summer, especially on weekends and holiday stretches. If you want a calmer feel, early mornings and shoulder season days are the move. You still get the breeze and the Seawall views, with more space and less crowd energy.

Because Babe’s Beach is right on the Seawall, it is easy to pair your beach time with a long walk or bike ride along the waterfront path. You can also keep the day going with Seawall dining nearby, or head toward other Galveston highlights for an evening plan.

For visitors who want to stay near Babe’s Beach and enjoy the Seawall at their own pace, BeachBox offers vacation homes close by. Having a place nearby makes it easy to stretch your beach time into a full weekend with comfort and convenience.

What People Are Saying

“One of our favorite beaches to walk at sunset to find little critters. The sunset and sunrise are stunning. Our locals and parks dept works so hard to keep our beaches beautiful and they really are. We just ask that tourists also help us by doing their part and taking out what you bring in 🩷”

“I can honestly say that it’s a great beach. They often have beach umbrellas for rent, and Jimmy’s on the Pier is a great place to eat lunch/dinner after a fun afternoon out in the sun. It’s a good beach for shelling, and one of the best for finding sharks teeth. It’s not usually too crowded, and the beach is nicely up-kept.”
