Visitor Guide

Plan Your Perfect Day At Porretto Beach

📍 Location

Porretto Beach sits right along the Seawall at 10th Street, which makes it one of the easiest beach spots to reach. You will also see Porretto Beach setups at other Seawall access points, including the stretch around 14th to 16th Street and another location closer to 27th Street, so you can pick the area that fits your day.

This is where Porretto Beach really shines. Instead of hunting for a lot and hauling everything across hot pavement, you park on the sand and walk a short distance to your spot. Parking is 20 dollars per car, and it is a full day pass with the freedom to leave and come back without starting over.
Hours are seasonal, and this is a beach that feels most “in full swing” from late spring through summer, with extra openings around Spring Break and weekends when the weather cooperates.
  • Umbrella and chair rentals: If you want the iconic Porretto Beach look, go for the standard setup: one umbrella with two chairs for about 50 dollars a day. It is the sweet spot for couples, friends, or parents who want shade without bringing half the garage.
  • Food and drink delivery: Once you are settled, you can stay put. Food and drinks come out to you, which is a game changer if you are with kids or you just do not want to pack up every time someone is hungry.
  • Jet ski rentals: When conditions are right, Porretto Beach can also turn into an active day with jet skis, which is a fun way to break up a long lounge session.
  • Friendly beach service: The best part is the service vibe. It feels organized and welcoming, like the staff is actually paying attention to keeping the day smooth.

Keep your setup respectful and easy for everyone. Avoid glass, clean up all trash, and keep music at a reasonable volume. If you bring pets, keep them leashed and pick up after them. Stay off dunes and protected areas, follow posted signs, and do not leave chairs or tents unattended for long periods.

This is still the Gulf, so it is smart to treat conditions as something that can change fast. Check surf and wind before you go in, stay aware of currents, and keep kids close when the water is active. If the waves look rough, it is a better day for splashing near shore and leaning into the umbrella time.

Porretto Beach is busiest in spring and summer, especially weekends and holiday stretches, when the Seawall feels lively and the umbrella rows fill in quickly. If you prefer a calmer feel, earlier mornings and shoulder season weekends are the move. You still get the views and the breeze, just with more space and less noise.

Because Porretto Beach is right on the Seawall, you can pair your beach time with a sunset walk or bike ride along the waterfront path, then keep the day going with nearby highlights like the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier at 25th and Seawall or an easy shift downtown to the Strand for shopping, food, and that historic Galveston atmosphere. If you want one more memorable stop, the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum on Pier 19 is a fun, different way to end the day near the harbor.

If you want to stay close to Porretto Beach and keep the Seawall within easy reach, BeachBox offers nearby vacation homes that make it simple to turn a beach day into a longer getaway.

What People Are Saying

There is plenty of space for your family to set up and enjoy the beach. Many restaurants and stores around. They have chairs and umberellas there to sit in and have protection from the sun for a small fee. You can bring your own food and beverages if you want. Also, the biggest bonus for me is that you can park within what seems like 15-20 feet from the water. So the walk up to the water with your stuff is not bad. All in all it’s a good beach and I recommend it.

I recently visited this beach, and it was a surprisingly pleasant experience! The water was much cleaner than I expected, which made swimming and lounging by the shore that much more enjoyable. It wasn’t overly crowded, so there was plenty of space to relax and soak in the surroundings. One of the highlights was watching the sunrise—it was absolutely beautiful and peaceful.

You would think it would be packed here on a Sunday at noon, but nope! There was plenty of open space and lots of room under the souvenirs shop to enjoy shade. Very clean beach and you should be able to find parking pretty easily, if not there is a parking area which you would have to pay for. Really nice spot to hang out with the family or friends!
