5 Reasons to Plan an Autumn Escape to the Texas Gulf Coast

The Texas Gulf Coast and summertime fun sort of go hand-in-hand. Our BeachBox vacation rental homes and gorgeous Gulf of Mexico shores are what you dream about when you imagine a sun-filled holiday on the coast.

But— we have a secret to share with you.

Autumn in Galveston is our favorite time of the year! If you’re thinking about booking a getaway to Galveston this fall but you’re not sure about the timing, you can rest assured that an autumn escape to our beautiful seaside location is a fantastic idea.

Here are our five top reasons for taking full advantage of a fall vacay to Galveston.

1. Tremendous temps abound.

After months of humidity and high temperatures, October and November in Galveston arrive like a literal breath of fresh air. The daily summertime temperatures in the high 80s and 90s take a small dive and settle in the cozy, comfortable high 60s and 70s. The humidity level plummets too, improving nearly everything— including the enjoyment of many outdoor activities like bike riding and sightseeing.

Chances are, you’ll need to pack a couple of light sweatshirts and jackets to fully enjoy the brisk offshore breezes. You’ll want to stock up on your s’mores supplies, too. Crisp fall temperatures call for gathering around the fire pit with friends and family.

2. Seriously— where is everyone?

There’s no question that summertime in Galveston is our busiest time of the year. Unfortunately, this sometimes means you’ll experience wait times at most attractions, crowded beaches, and packed restaurants. But with schools back in session and Labor Day behind us, the summer crowds start to thin out drastically.

The difference between the summer crowds and the smaller fall population in Galveston is a relief for many. And if you’re searching for a peaceful and relaxing trip to decompress— trust us, a stroll along a nearly empty beach will be right up your alley.

3. Enjoy a pumpkin-spiced night or two at the pub.

Pumpkin-spiced lattes may be all the rage at the local coffee shops, but Galveston’s local pub scene and craft beer breweries get in on the gourd scene, too. Galveston Island Brewing is a popular local favorite that not only serves up autumn-themed brews— they also host an annual Oktoberfest on October 16 from Noon to 8 PM.

Devil and the Deep Brewery also has a ton of homemade flavors on tap— with fun names like Fake Mustache Porter, Fish & Chips English Ale, and 40 Knots Pale Ale— and they are known to host an exciting Oktoberfest too. Stuttgarden Tavern is another one of our favorites, with not only craft beer on tap, but craft cocktails and food, too. They have two locations— in Galveston and Texas City— and we love their Galveston location’s trivia nights on Tuesdays and Sundays at 7 PM. They also have over 50 beers on tap, including delicious ciders and a sweet Saint Arnold Oktoberfest brew that celebrates the autumn harvest.

4. Fun fall festivals.

Once the temps become a bit more comfortable, our festival scene really heats up. Galveston in the fall is filled to the brim with so many fun and family-friendly street festivals and special events that will add fantastic memories to your already amazing vacation. Here are a few we’re looking forward to this season.

It’s no secret that Galveston is sort of known for being a bit, well, haunted. So of course it’s the perfect destination for an October trip. The Galveston Experience Bus Tours is hosting a ghost tour this year, with stops at the mystical Moody Mansion and the spooky Broadway Cemetery. Art lovers do not want to miss ARToberfest on October 16 and 17. Hosted by The Grand 1894 Opera House, the event features live music, delicious food, and lots of exhibits by local artists.

If horsepower and Harleys are more your speed, you’ll want to check out the Lone Star Motorcycle Rally from November 4th to the 7th. This massive four-day rally welcomes over 500,000 bikers and hundreds of vendors and live performers to downtown. There’s also the Galveston Greek Festival on October 9th and 10th that celebrates Greek culture with an array of food vendors, musical performances, and lots of dancing.

5. Amazing accommodations available— although we may be a smidge biased.

If you’re ready to make your fall getaway to Galveston now, let BeachBox find you the perfect accommodations for your whole family. Our inventory of gorgeous Texas Gulf Coast homes has a little something for everyone.

Houses like Galveston Beach Lodge, Beachfront Bungalow, and Egrets Nest have plenty of room for the whole family and will place you right in the center of all the fall Galveston goings-on.

We love Galveston all year-’round, but even we have to admit that the fall season holds just a little smidge of extra magic. Maybe it’s the relief of the cooler temperatures after a sweltering summer or the enjoyment of strolling through a less-crowded downtown or getting a table at our favorite restaurant without a wait. Whatever the reason, we highly recommend you give Galveston a try this upcoming autumn season. And let us know what your favorite part was.

As always, if you have any questions or simply want to chat with a friendly local— we would love to hear from you.

Give us a call or send us a message and we’ll— hopefully— see you soon!
